I’m still just processing the few days I spent at the fabulous BACCN Annual Conference in Aberdeen, Scotland! Two complete days of Live Graphic Recording, meeting hundreds of wonderful people, and cèilidh dancing until midnight.... I feel very fortunate to have been part of this.
About the BACCN Conference
Critical care nurses have one of the most stressful and important jobs, looking after people in the worst moments of their lives. The British Association of Critical Care Nurses allows them to connect, learn, and share their ideas and experiences … and to have an AMAZING time!
The theme of this conference was exploring how they can "Build Environments to Thrive". It was a privilege to dive into their world and capture the key takeaways from the various keynotes, panels, and sessions across the days. Critical care nurses are also a lovely & appreciative audience, which makes the experience even more wholesome.
Live Graphic Recording at the Conference
Thanks to an exceptional event organizing team, the BACCN Conference was also yet another proof of what’s possible with Live Graphic Recording...
At the exhibition area, I had a station dedicated to Graphic Recording, with a TV connected to my screen! This allowed people to come up to me during the breaks, see the graphic as it unfolds, and explore it in detail, anytime.
But that's not even all! When we all gathered in the main conference room, we shared the graphic on the big screen as well. This is where working in the brand colours can be so impactful - the room was already swimming in the BACCN colours and ambiance, and these visual summaries brought it it all together!
The final Graphic Recordings; Visual Conference Summaries
My aim for this conference was not 'traditional' Graphic Recording - which is generally a moment by moment capture of all the key ideas - as that would have left us with 20+ graphics. Instead, what the BACCN found more useful and powerful was to create a Visual Conference Summary of each day, combining the key takeaways from the various sessions at a high level.
Most of my Live Graphic Recording work happens completely remotely these days, but if any conference is worth attending in person, it's this one! I'm so grateful for this wholesome experience, and hope that these Visual Conference Summaries will help the event live on.
